Meet the Team
The Children’s Center (TCC) employs 15 full-time teaching staff, 3 part-time teaching staff, a Curriculum Coach, a Bookkeeper/Administrative Assistant and an Executive Director. The staff members at The Children’s Center are committed to serving children and families, and they bring a wide range of skills and talents to our teaching teams. Their experience ranges from two years to 40 years of teaching!

Jesseca Steele, Executive Director
Jesseca is the Executive Director of The Children’s Center and has worked at The Children’s Center since 2013. She has a B.S. in Family and Consumer Science with a major in Child Development from the University of Georgia, and a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Georgia. Jesseca is working on her Certificate of Advanced Studies in Educational Leadership at the University of Southern Maine and is a certified ECE trainer through Maine Roads to Quality. As Director, Jesseca’s philosophy is based on ensuring that “children are provided with the highest quality early learning environment, where their individual needs are met each day by loving and nurturing caregivers.”
Jesseca is on the advisory board for Maine Roads to Quality and is certified Maine Roads to Quality, Level 8.
Away from work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, hiking, kayaking, riding bikes, and cooking – especially baking.
Debby Adkins, Program Coordinator
Debby is a Curriculum Coach and has worked at The Children’s Center since 2014. She has an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education. Her philosophy of teaching includes the belief that learning should be joyful and that children should not be rushed so that they are allowed freedom to learn at their own pace. Debby also believes that “children feel actively involved in their own learning when they have time to engage in short and long-term projects.”
Debby is a professional member of NAEYC and the Portland Area Reggio Collaborative.
Away from work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, bicycling, and attending live theater and movies.
Saras is a teacher who spends time in each of the classrooms. She has worked at The Children’s Center since 2014. She has a B.A. in Human Ecology from College of the Atlantic. Her philosophy of teaching includes “allowing learning to happen organically through play and approaching children with patience and kindness.”
Away from work, she enjoys going on outdoor adventures such as swimming, hiking, canoeing and camping. She also loves a variety of dance including African, Swing and Contra classes.
